The Big Hill Springs Portfolio is a collection of ten (10) archival, silver gelatin photographic prints by Calgary photographer, Steve Speer. Each image is hand printed by the photographer on fibre based photographic paper, processed to museum standards and mounted on 100% rag matt board.
Big Hill Springs (west of Airdrie, Alberta) is located between parkland and foothills natural regions; which consists of a series of small waterfalls that flow year-round over rocky terraces of tufa covered with a lush growth of shrubs and grasses; the park is also the site of an historic fish hatchery and Alberta’s first commercial creamery.
The archival portfolio box core is Kappa binder’s board (.100), a bookmaking board with no glue between layers, lined with 80 lb. acid-and lignin-free paper, covered in library quality F-Grade Buckram (poly-cotton). It has a moisture-resistant, 100% aqueous acrylic coating with a reinforced hinge and close-tolerance construction to keep out dust.
