About Steve Speer

Steve Speer's introduction to photography began when he borrowed his brother's Nikkormat camera in the early 70's. He then bought the same body with a different lens and they traded optics when out shooting. His early efforts were shot on Kodachrome 25 which came with a yellow envelope which had to be sent directly to Kodak for processing. It was extremely exciting, after waiting a week or more, to head to the post office and view a batch of newly processed images. Photography and art have been a common thread throughout Steve's life and he currently operates two businesses, Acorn Communications Inc. (graphic design) and, FourbyFive Gallery of Photography.

Steve's photography is film based, shot on Ilford HP5 and Fuji Velvia (4x5 and 120mm). His black & white work is hand printed in the darkroom on fibre based, silver gelatin photographic paper or on an Epson printer using archival K3 pigmented inks. All images are limited to editions of 40 prints, are processed to museum standards and mounted on 100% rag matt board.
